Autumn is the season of fig pie, the traditional Corfiot dish, with rich flavors and spicy taste. Fig pies are found in different variations in many regions of lands around the Mediterranean Sea, so Corfiot Fig Pie (Sykomaida) is perfectly interwoven with the gastronomy of the island.
After gathering figs, they stay in the hot summer sun to dry and fermented together with grape must, ouzo and spices. Fennel seeds and black pepper are uniquely combined in the mixture, giving freshness and intensity to the sweetness of the figs. On the other hand, the addition of ouzo transforms this dessert into an ideal appetizer (in Greek called meze) with ouzo and tsipouro. Gives energy, is a very good source of vitamins B1, B6, phosphorus, magnesium, calcium, potassium, and fiber.
Eaten plain, but accompanies perfectly cheese and cold plates or mixed in green salads giving a special aroma and taste. Available in 4 different flavors: classic with ouzo, spicy with ouzo, kumquat, and chocolate with brandy.
